1IMT1 Concept

1 Is More Than 1 -- you get more than you give

Concept

Feb 28, 2023

1IMT1 is a student-led service practice that builds strengths and social connections. Students 1) contribute to individual and group service projects, 2) earn time credits for their work, and 3) receive help and in-kind rewards for positive development.

Problem

Feb 28, 2023

Traditional programs often treat youth as program recipients, rather than active participants who can contribute to their communities. We want to change this dynamic by recognizing that young people have valuable skills and energy to share. They need a structure and format within which to contribute to youth and community development.

Solution

Feb 28, 2023

1IMT1 is a reciprocity-based practice that recognizes youth as assets, resources, and energy (Youth ARE) while simultaneously building their capabilities and social capital. This approach addresses needs for involvement and community improvement. We view youth assets rather than problems to be solved. Youths need positive experiential learning and strengths building to achieve the positive youth development necessary for successful transitioning to adulthood.

Impact

Feb 28, 2023

Our aim is to help youth build a support team, increase social capital, and broaden their community awareness. Over time, this builds trust, confidence, better communication skills and the maturity that comes with learning 21st Century Skills. Youth have agency and are the architects of their growth, development, and contributions to their teammates, others, and collective community improvement.

Technology

Feb 28, 2023

Data measures show how youth engage with service activities as Assets, Resources, Energy – Youth ARE. The 1IMT1 website and mobile app include microlearning programs. Online forms track weekly activity. Check-in forms assess needs and strengths. Resource dashboards show increases in social capital, connections, and skills. Vision is encouraged via "2-Things" questions. Member profiles show individual progress. Member forum allows members to network online.
